Dear Readers,

Long Time coming! Still doing your TAXES? YES? Are you finished? Congratulations!
If not; Contact me – Let’s see if I can help you?

Do you use protection? I’m speaking about the Internet, now…what were you thinking?

Here’s a brief reminder from the folks at Intuit Co. and the IRS about how you should be preventing fraud and protectiong your information.

Protect yourself
1) Start off by not carrying around anything that has your Social Security number on it. And don’t give out your SSN unless required.
2) Check your credit report every 12 months to make sure there is nothing suspicious. You can get a free credit report every 12 months from each of the three major credit agencies – Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax – under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act.
3) Don’t reply to any electronic communications claiming to be the IRS.
The agency does not contact people or request personal information by email, text message, or social media. If you receive a scam email claiming to be from the IRS, forward it to phising@irs.gov. Also, don’t give payment to anyone claiming to be the IRS over the phone. The actual IRS will not ask for credit card, bank, or other financial information this way.
4) If you do a lot of online shopping or use your personal computer for banking or sending payments, make sure you have updated firewalls and anti‐spam/virus software. Changing your passwords every few months for all Internet accounts can also help.

You can’t prevent fraud – only deter it. By being proactive in protecting your personal information and
vigilant with monitoring your accounts, you can stay one step ahead of the scammers.
